Records Fall as Wolves Win Big Over Wesleyan

CARROLLTON, Ga. - Three records fell on Wednesday afternoon at The Coliseum as the UWG women's basketball team defeated Wesleyan 116-21 at The Coliseum. 

With six players in double-figures, UWG set a program record for most points in a game, besting the previous mark of 113 from the 1993-94 season.  

Jasmine Jones led the offensive charge with 21 points while Gal-la Font had 16, Sydne Tolbert had 14, Grace O'Gara had 12, and Destiny Jones and Becca Ledford each had 11. 

UWG allowed a record-low 21 points, besting a previous record of 24. Additionally, UWG's 95-point margin of victory was 35 points over the previous record. 

Font had career-highs in points and rebounds while recording her first career double-double. The Barcelona, Spain native had 11 rebounds to go with her 16 points. 

Nine different Wolves scored in the opening quarter as UWG opened up a 33-6 lead after 10 minutes of play. UWG was 12-of-18 (66.7 percent) from the field and 6-of-8 (75 percent) from three in the opening quarter while Wesleyan was 2-of-13 (15.4 percent) from the field. 

UWG scored 33 more points in the second quarter and shutout Wesleyan in the period. By halftime, UWG led 66-6 fueled by 11 points from Gal-la Font, 10 from Sydne Tolbert, and nine from Asia Donald

In the second half, UWG outscored Wesleyan 50-15 and led by as much as 98 points. 

For the game, UWG finished with a 50.6 percent clip from the field and poured in 16 three-pointers. 

The Wolves' defense forced 27 turnovers and UWG outrebounded Wesleyan, 64-18. 

UWG is back on the road on Sunday, traveling to Florida A&M for a 2 p.m. contest in Tallahassee, Florida. 

NOTABLE NUMBERS 
- UWG played 12 players and all 12 scored. Eight different Wolves hit three-pointers in the win, including Jasmine Jones who hit five to record her second game this season with at least five triples made. 
- The Wolves' 16 three-pointers are the most made in the Joanna Reitz era, and was one off of the school record of 17 (Oakwood, 2019). 
- The previous school record for fewest point allowed came in 1987 against Armstrong State. The previous highest margin of victory, 63, also came against Armstrong State the very next season.
