Six Wolves Named All-UAC, Joel Taylor Named Conference Coach of the Year

12/2/2025 1:00:00 PM

CARROLLTON, Ga. - A total of seven UWG names were on the United Athletic Conference's Postseason Football Awards, with Joel Taylor being unanimously named the UAC Coach of the Year, two Wolves earning First Team honors and four being named to the Second Team.

Defensive lineman David Hoage and return specialist DeAndre Buchanon were named to the First Team while Latrelle Murrell and Brody Balliew were offensive selections on the Second Team with Jalen Burton notching a Second Team selection at defensive back along with kicker Tommy Holden

For the architect of it all, Taylor, it's his second Coach of the Year honor as the second-year head man was last week named the AFCA Region 3 Coach of the Year. Taylor, who led UWG to an eight-win season in their second season of FCS football was also a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Award, given to the nation's FCS Coach of the Year.

Hoage was a legit candidate for Defensive Player of the Year, recording 20.0 tackles for loss which tied a single-season record at UWG while ranking third on the team in tackles and leading the Wolves with 8.5 sacks. A Denver, Colorado native, Hoage is also a finalist for the National Defensive Player of the Year, known as the Buck Buchanan Award.

UWG's Buchanon, a First Team return specialist, was a weapon in the return game all season long, and ran a kickoff back for a touchdown in the win over Samford. He ranked sixth in the county in kickoff returns, averaging nearly 30 yards per return and ranked in the top-40 in punt return average.

On the second team, Balliew started all 11 games at left tackle and was on the field for 95 percent of UWG's offensive snaps. Balliew was a big part of Latrelle Murrell's success, who rushed for 893 yards and three scores on his way to the Second Team nod.

Defensively, Jalen Burton ranked eighth in tackles while leading the team in interceptions with three, ranking fourth in the UAC in that category.

Holden was phenomenal all season handling place kicking duties for UWG. He finished his senior season going 12-of-15 on the season and was 7-of-7 inside of 40 yards and had four games with multiple made field goals. The Lithia, Florida native's highlight in 2025 was the 46-yard game-winner at Southern Utah.

It's a DI era high in All-Conference selections for the Wolves as last season's inaugural FCS squad had just one All-UAC selection. Taylor's Coach of the Year selection is the first time since 2018 a UWG coach has been named the Conference Coach of the Year.
