JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The UWG softball team fell on Sunday in the series finale at North Florida, 6-2.
West Georgia (9-19, 1-5 ASUN) fell behind early and battled back, but ultimately fell to North Florida (26-10, 6-0 ASUN) who swept their second straight series to open conference play.
Two walks and a hit batter in the first inning put three aboard early for UNF, and then a double and single back-to-back is all the Ospreys would need as they scored four runs in the first and then turned it over to their pitching staff.
Facing UNF's All-American pitcher for the third time in the series, UWG managed just four hits, but pushed across two runs in the third thanks to a two-RBI double by senior Blaire Bizette. Her shot to right center scored Lahr, who singled to lead off the frame, and Dixiana Sims who drew a two-out walk.
UNF added runs in the second and the fourth to account for the final score.
Sims pitched 5.1 innings of relief, giving up four hits and two runs, while UNF used three pitchers to earn their 26th win and sixth in ASUN play.
UWG's four hits came from Sims, Bizette, Lahr, and Makayla Register.
The Wolves are now idle until a second consecutive road series, traveling back to the Sunshine State for a tree-game set next Saturday and Sunday in Fort Myers, Florida.
