Carrollton, Ga. – The Wolves dropped game three this overcast afternoon against North Florida, resulting in a 1-2 series loss.
UWG (17-20, 8-10 ASUN) couldn't get things started offensively until late in the game, and UNF's (21-19, 9-9 ASUN) bats were too hot for West Georgia to handle.
Game Summary
West Georgia started
Sam Cole and got off to a rocky start letting up five runs, four earned, across the first four innings. Cole faced 22 batters and had 2 strikeouts during his time on the mound.
The Wolves gave up another five earned runs during the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, going through four different pitchers.
"I thought North Florida did a good job of pitching our hitters, and had a good plan, which we did not adjust enough to," head coach
Jeff Smith stated.
"Offensively we have to get more quality starts and this is the first weekend I think that we haven't done that. We gave up five through four and we have to be able to battle back.
We've got to be able to be a little tougher, and be able to adjust when needed. We just have to keep competing," head coach
Jeff Smith noted.
Pitching shifted towards the end of the game, as
Garrett Moody took the mound in the eighth inning. Moody faced six batters, striking out two.
Moody was replaced by
Davis Williams in the ninth. Williams faced five batters, striking out one, and giving up no runs.
Offensively, UWG was shut out through the first six innings by the Osprey's pitchers and only got two hits in those first six.
The bats fired up too late for the Wolves, despite a final push by the UWG offense in the last two innings.
An RBI double by
Carter Dierdorf in the seventh inning scored
Blake Bradford. The Wolves scored their second run of the inning on a wild pitch.
The bottom of the eighth inning resulted in a series of hits by the Wolves, bringing home
Landon Weidner on a single by
Jacob Bowman.
The final score was 10-3 North Florida.
The Wolves next appearance will be in Atlanta, Georgia, as they take on the Georgia State Panthers for the second time this season. First pitch is set for 6 PM on Tuesday, April 22.
