CHARLOTTE, N.C.- West Georgia Softball stamped their first ASUN conference series win on Saturday, winning a rubber match, 2-1, in Charlotte against the Queens Royals.Â
West Georgia came into the matchup off a gutsy game two win yesterday, and continued their fiery hot streak into today's matchup. Â
Megan Waites would leadoff with a single to second, with Dixiana Sims following suit with a single to left field. Waites would steal third and Sims would steal second both getting into scoring position. Blaire Bizette would bring in Waites on a ground out to short stop. Sims would eventually score on a throwing error to jump out to a 2-0 lead early. Â
The Wolves tenacious defense, led by Sims in the circle, would hold the Royals scoreless in the first two innings. Â
UWG kept their bats hot by adding three more runs in the top of the second. Madison Vandergriff would continue swinging a hot back leading off with a double, followed by a sacrifice bunt by Jacelyn Lahr which advanced Vandergriff to third. Addison Sturdivant would get on base and advance with a fielding error. Sturdivant would show off some impressive base running by stealing third and Zekylah Boyd would bring her home with a single to right field. Waites would ground out to third, but advance Boyd to second. Bizette would come to the plate and hit a single to bring Boyd in for a 5-0 lead. Â
Garrett would start the top of the third off with a bang homering to left field to attach another run to the board for a 6-0 lead. Â
Queens would finally respond to get on the board in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs to cut the Wolves deficit to 6-2. Â
West Georgia would counter with a run of their own in the top of the fourth with a Bizette RBI. Waites would single to right and then advance to second on a stolen base. Bizette would then come and single to center field to tack on the only run in the inning to take a dominant 7-2 lead. Â
The Royals would go on to score one run in the fourth and one more run in the sixth before West Georgia locked down the series with a 7-4 win. Â
Sims would pick up the win pitching six innings finishing with three strikeouts, four earned runs and seven hits. Calli Hardison earnedthe save coming into pitch in the seventh. Â
Offensively, West Georgia ended the day with nine hits and six RBIs. Â
The Wolves look to continue their hot streak in a midweek doubleheader matchup against UAB at home on Wednesday. First pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 4:00 p.m.  Â
