CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG softball team fell in a pair of games on Wednesday, losing both ends of a doubleheader against non-conference foe Troy at University Field.
West Georgia (9-24) had six hits but four errors and allowed eight walks in the opening game of the doubleheader, falling 9-2 but Troy (23-16) pounded out 12 hits and held UWG to two in the second game.
Game One
Troy took an early lead with a run in the first, as an error plated a run. The Trojans then exploded for five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a walk and a hit batter, to extend their lead to 6-0.
The Wolves managed to cut the deficit to 6-2 in the fourth inning on a double by Zekylah Boyd that drove in two runs. However, Troy added three more in the seventh when Taylor McKinney hit a three-run homer to make it a 9-2 advantage.
Ally Long led UWG's offense with a two-for-three performance in game one. Dixiana Sims pitched six innings of relief and was cruising along until McKinney's home run in the sixth.
Game Two
Troy jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning on a three-run home run. The Trojans extended their lead to 4-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly.
The Wolves (9-24) got on the board in the third, as Kristen Fowler tripled and later scored on a groundout RBI by Zekylah Boyd, cutting the deficit to 4-1. However, Troy exploded for 10 runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a third three-run homer on the day from Taylor McKinney, to build a commanding 14-1 lead.
West Georgia added a second run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Sky Ramos. Mya Holt earned the win for the Trojans, while Kaprice Leonard took the loss for the Wolves.
West Georgia was limited to just two hits with Megan Waites and Fowler recording both of those.

West Georgia remains home over the weekend, hosting Jacksonville in a three-game series. The doubleheader is set to begin on Friday at 4 p.m. with game two set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The series finale is slated for a 1 p.m. start on Saturday.
