Softball Season Concludes, Bizette Sets Career Batting Record

DELAND, Fla. - The UWG softball season ended with a defeat on Saturday, but beyond the final score a larger headline loomed.

Blaire Bizette has officially broken the UWG career batting record, wrapping up an impressive two-year career with a .385 average. The New Roads, Louisiana native ended her career with 119 hits and was nine points clear of the previous record set by Nicole Yancey from 2011-2014.

UWG jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, but Stetson then shut down the Wolves' bats and responded with seven unanswered runs to complete a series sweep in the regular season finale.

Megan Waites led off the game with a double, and then Madison Vandergriff singled and a walk later, the Wolves had them loaded with no outs. Shelby Garrett then delivered a two-RBI single, and Dixiana Sims drove in the third run with an RBI groundout.

Four hits and an error plated four runs for the hatters in the second, and that's all they would need. After three of the first four batters recorded a hit for UWG, the Hatters went to the bullpen and Hayley Arnold pitched seven innings of no-hit relief, shutting down the Wolves while walking none and striking out eight.

Stetson would add two in the fifth and the game's final run in the sixth.

UWG wraps up their first Division I season with 12 wins including four Atlantic Sun Conference victories.
