Baseball Falls to the KSU Owls at Home

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia baseball lost 17-1 in seven innings to Kennesaw State University tonight at Cole Field.

With UWG (18-27, 9-15 ASUN) being out-hit 18-2, KSU (25-22, 14-6 CUSA) ran away the midweek win in Carrollton.

KSU finished the season's home-and-home series up 2-0. West Georgia still leads the all-time series 21-19.

After the game, head coach Jeff Smith had this to say about the performance, "It was a tough one. In baseball, you have days like this, you just don't want to have a lot of them. I think this was the first time this year we really couldn't get anything going. Their pitching had us shutdown. We only got two hits today. KSU is a very good team, but we just got to be better."

GAME SUMMARY
Making his first start of his senior season was left-handed pitcher Brendan Parks. In 27 frames across 13 games, Parks posted a 3.33 ERA with 40 strikeouts. For KSU, they pitched senior righty Smith Pinson. In 41 innings through 16 appearances, Pinson boasted a 5.71 ERA with 45 strikeouts coming into today's matchup.

Just like in the last head-to-head with KSU, the visiting team opened the game with a leadoff homer. Following this home run and a walk, Parks rotated out for freshman Maverick Torres.

In the following frame, KSU extended the lead to 7-0 off of a pair of RBI base hits and a grand slam over the left field fence. The Owls recorded six hits this inning.

During the third, Kennesaw extended their advantage to 14-0 off of seven hits, including an inside-the-park homer, and one UWG error.

Following a scoreless fourth, the Owls extended their advantage to 15-0 with an RBI double to left field during the fifth.

In the sixth, another KSU homer pushed the visitors' lead to 17-0. In the bottom of the inning, the Wolves scored their first run of the day on a Carson Mynatt sacrifice fly.

UWG fell 17-1 through seven.

BY THE NUMBERS
Brendan Parks was tagged with the loss, bringing his record to 3-4 on the season.

UWG's first hit was by Jack Witmer in the bottom of the sixth. In the same frame, Brady McDevitt tallied the Wolves only other hit.

In Bryan Gomez' one frame on the mound, he struck out two batters and did not concede a hit or a run.
