CARROLLTON, Ga. - Late last month, the NCAA's Strategic Vision and Planning Committee reviewed the University of West Georgia Department of Athletics' Annual Report, and advanced UWG into year two of the transitional process.
"We are beyond excited to be moving forward within the NCAA's reclassification process," said Jason Carmichael, UWG Director of Athletics. "All of us in and around UWG Athletics continue to look with eager anticipation towards the work on the near horizon. Certainly, there is more to do, but we are pleased to take a moment and celebrate the momentum we've built in this first year."
The NCAA reviews each transitional institution year-over-year, ensuring a successful transition into full-fledged Division I membership.
UWG's first year of Division I featured many highs and monumental, historic victories, all while UWG's student-athletes excelled in the classroom. The Wolves posted a 3.179 department GPA with nearly 200 student-athletes earning a 3.50 or above GPA.
UWG enters year two of the NCAA transitional period in the fall of 2025 as members of the Atlantic Sun Conference and the United Athletic Conference in football for the 2025-26 athletic year.
