CARROLLTON, Ga. - University of West Georgia Deputy Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator Karen Allen has been selected as a member of the 2026-27 Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association (FCS ADA) and Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) Fellows Program, a nationally recognized leadership development initiative designed to prepare senior administrators for future athletics director opportunities.
Allen is one of just 17 administrators from across the country chosen for the year-long program, which pairs emerging leaders with sitting athletics directors and provides monthly professional development sessions focused on leadership, fundraising, strategic planning, sport oversight, and executive decision-making.
"This is an outstanding and well-deserved opportunity for Karen," said Jason Carmichael, Director of Athletics at the University of West Georgia. "Karen has been an invaluable member of our leadership team during one of the most transformative periods in UWG Athletics history. Her selection reflects the respect she has earned across the industry and the tremendous impact she continues to make on our department, our student-athletes, and our institution."
As part of the program, Allen will be mentored by Matt Martin, Director of Athletics at USC Upstate, while participating in a structured 10-month curriculum alongside peers from institutions representing every level of Division I athletics.
The selection also highlights the growing influence of UWG Athletics within the national intercollegiate athletics landscape. In addition to Allen's selection as a fellow, West Georgia Athletics Director Jason Carmichael will serve as a mentor in the program, paired with Austin Buntz of Davidson College. The dual representation underscores the reputation UWG Athletics has built as the Wolves continue their transition and growth at the NCAA Division I level.
The Fellows Program is jointly administered by the FCS ADA and DI-AAA ADA and is designed to cultivate the next generation of athletics directors through intentional mentorship, executive-level learning opportunities, and networking with experienced leaders throughout college athletics. According to the organizations, fellows meet monthly to discuss industry issues and gain insight from veteran athletics administrators from across the nation.
Allen has served in multiple leadership capacities throughout her career and currently oversees key strategic and operational areas within UWG Athletics. Her participation in the Fellows Program provides another opportunity to enhance her leadership development while bringing valuable insight and industry connections back to the University of West Georgia.
