Wolves Show Grit in Tough Loss to Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Wolves (0-2-0) displayed grit and resilience on Sunday afternoon at Bell Soccer Complex, matching Kentucky with a physical style of play before ultimately falling 7-0.

The matchup was a historic milestone, as the Wolves faced an SEC opponent for the first time in the Division I era, gaining valuable experience against one of the nation's top conferences.

Despite Kentucky's early offensive surge, which produced six first-half goals, the Wolves refused to back down. Junior goalkeeper Hannah Garrett recorded two saves in the opening half, while freshman Emily Sanabria protected the net in the second with another stop. Facing a season-high 28 shots, the duo stood tall under relentless pressure. Sanabria in particular impressed, limiting the Wildcats to just one goal on 13 second-half attempts.

UWG showed flashes of potential throughout the SEC matchup. Freshman Isa Ramirez created an attacking opportunity with a 25th-minute corner kick, giving the Wolves a chance inside the box. On the defensive end, Honora Kahwach, Kaylen Brown, and Aleyshka Orellano each logged over 60 minutes, standing strong against Kentucky's deep rotation of attackers.

The Wildcats (2-0-0) struck early, finding the net just 55 seconds into the match through Thalia Morisi. Kentucky scored six goals in the opening half, led by a brace from forward Alexis Tylenda. The Wildcats added just one more goal in the second half, a 73rd-minute strike from Gianna Tuzzolino, concluding a balanced attack that featured six different scorers.

The Wolves look to bounce back and secure their first win of the season when they face Georgia State at the GSU Soccer Complex on August 21. Follow the action by watching the game on ESPN+ and tracking live stats.
