Balanced Match Concludes with Wolves Falling 3-2 to AAMU

CARROLLTON, Ga.- From the opening whistle to the final horn, Thursday night's match at University Soccer Field was a battle. The UWG Wolves traded goals with Alabama A&M in a contest that featured five total goals, and nearly identical stat lines, but the Bulldogs came away with a narrow 3-2 victory.

The Bulldogs (3-6-0) came out with early pressure, piling up 10 first-half shots, with four being in the first three minutes of play. AMMU broke through in the 33rd minute when Brea Bailey finished off a pass from Moriah Watkins to put AAMU in front, 1-0. However, the Wolves (1-7-0) wasted no time responding. Just over two minutes later, freshman Kaylen Brown made her mark, scoring her first collegiate goal in the 36th minute to send the match into halftime tied 1-1.

The second half brought more offensive firepower. AAMU's Czaske Deane struck in the 50th minute off an Albany Rios assist, regaining the lead for the Bulldogs. Yet UWG showed resilience once again, as Chiara Lape buried her first goal of the year in the 73rd minute of play, set up by a perfect cross from Ava Timberlake. However, just two minutes later, Deane scored again, finding the net in the 76th minute to seal the 3-2 win for the Bulldogs.

Beyond the final score, the statistics reflected just how even the match was. Both teams fired 14 total shots, with UWG tallying eight on goal to AAMU's seven. The Bulldogs held a narrow edge in corners at six to four, while possession was nearly split at 52-48. The goalkeepers' matchup was even throughout, with Alabama A&M's Madelyn Cornwell making 6 saves and UWG's Emily Sanabria stopping 4 shots.

The Wolves' offensive surge marks the first time they've scored in back-to-back matches since September 1st vs. Alabama A&M and September 8th vs. Alabama State in 2024. In a story that feels all too familiar, UWG once again fell 3-2 to the Bulldogs, replicating last year's result.

The Wolves will turn their attention to Senior Day on September 14th at 2 p.m., when they welcome High Point to University Soccer Field.
