Early Momentum Carries Dolphins Past Wolves

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.- UWG women's soccer wrapped up their second ASUN match in Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon, falling 5-0 to Jacksonville University at Southern Oak Stadium. The loss drops West Georgia to 2-9-0 overall and 0-2-0 in ASUN play, while the Dolphins improve to 4-3-1 and 2-0-0 in the conference.

The match opened with early pressure from the Dolphins. Manuela Restrepo struck first in the 9th minute, converting a penalty kick to give Jacksonville a 1-0 lead. Less than 90 seconds later, Alicia Rey Perez doubled the Dolphin's lead, finishing off an assist from Layla Garcia-Moreno.

The Dolphins' attack remained consistent, and in the 18th minute Rey Perez notched her second goal of the day, this time assisted by Restrepo, making it 3-0in the opening 20 minutes of play.


West Georgia's first scoring opportunity came midway through the half as Noemi Casique forced a save in the 30th minute and Kaylen Brown followed with an attempt just a minute later. Despite the push, Jacksonville maintained control, outshooting UWG 13-2 in the first half. Goalkeeper Emily Sanabria tallied two saves before Hannah Garrett took over in goal after halftime.

The Wolves regrouped and played with more energy after the break, but Jacksonville eventually scored again in the 69th minute when Julia Delprat made the score 4-0. Just over 12 minutes later, Claudia Perez Avila added the Dolphins' fifth and final goal off an assist from Millie Tugby. Garrett stayed busy in the second half, making five saves to set a new season high for herself.

The Wolves return home from their Jacksonville road trip looking to earn their first ASUN victory of the year. West Georgia's next match is set for Thursday, September 25 at 7 p.m. against Stetson at University Soccer Field.
