Hutchinson's Career Night Not Enough in Road Loss to Loyola Chicago

CHICAGO, Ill.- The University of West Georgia men's basketball team concluded its two-game road trip through Chicago on Thursday night, falling 76-53 to Loyola Chicago at Gentile Arena despite a career-high 18-point performance from Lou Hutchinson.

Loyola Chicago started the game strong, opening on a 10-0 run while forcing three early turnovers and holding UWG scoreless heading into the first media timeout.

Kenneth Chime scored UWG's first points of the night with a putback finish. However, the Ramblers continued to apply pressure with double teams and aggressive defense on the Wolves' ball handlers, extending their early advantage to 19-2.

Chas Lewless helped UWG find its offensive rhythm, knocking down consecutive deep three-pointers to halt Loyola's early momentum. Lou Hutchinson followed with another triple for the Wolves, helping West Georgia cut into the early deficit.

Chime continued to make his presence felt on the offensive glass, securing another putback layup to give him three early offensive rebounds after recording four in the season opener against DePaul.

The forward from Nigeria added another highlight shortly after, catching a lob from Juaquin Dixon and finishing the fast break following a steal from David Simon.

UWG continued to chip away at the Ramblers' advantage, cutting the deficit to single digits after Hutchinson knocked down a deep mid-range jumper to make the score 33-25 heading into the final media timeout of the first half.

Hutchinson stayed hot coming out of the timeout, connecting on a three-pointer while drawing a foul to earn an opportunity for a four-point play.

At halftime, UWG trailed Loyola Chicago 42-29. Hutchinson led the Wolves offensively with 10 points, shooting 75 percent from the field and 66 percent from beyond the arc. Chime also put together an efficient opening half, shooting a team-high 80 percent from the field while recording eight points and four rebounds.

For Loyola Chicago, Jaso Schofield led all scorers with 12 points and added four rebounds at the break. Jayden Dawson contributed eight points on perfect shooting, including two three-pointers for the Ramblers.

The Ramblers shot 51 percent from the field and 30 percent from beyond the arc in the opening half. Despite their early offensive struggles, the Wolves controlled the offensive glass, collecting 11 offensive rebounds to create additional scoring opportunities.

Loyola Chicago came out of the halftime break with another strong offensive stretch, opening the second half on a 10-2 run. Gui Grotzinger scored five early points in the first two minutes of action, helping the Ramblers extend their advantage to 53-35 heading into the first media timeout of the second half.

Hutchinson continued his strong offensive performance, scoring six consecutive points for the Wolves. The senior connected on another three-pointer before drawing a foul from beyond the arc and converting all three free throws.

Lewless then found Chime underneath the basket for an easy layup, capping off an 8-0 run by UWG that trimmed the Ramblers' lead to 57-46.

However, Loyola Chicago responded with a 19-7 run to close out the contest, extending its advantage and securing the 76-53 victory over West Georgia.

Hutchinson finished the night with a career-high 18 points, shooting 50 percent from both the field and beyond the arc while converting 88 percent of his attempts from the charity stripe.

Chime tied his career high with 14 points while collecting four offensive rebounds for the second consecutive game, continuing his strong start to the 2026-27 campaign.

The Wolves now conclude their tour of the Windy City and return to Carrollton for their home opener on Wednesday, November 11, against UNC Asheville. Tipoff from the Coliseum in the City of Dreams is scheduled for 7 p.m.
