Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Danny Talbert

UWG Basketball Falls to UCA in Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. - West Georgia men's basketball's two game winning streak was snapped today by a 79-62 road loss to Central Arkansas.

Battling back from down 19 in the first half, UWG (12-14, 6-8 ASUN) made it a competitive matchup against a red-hot UCA team (17-10, 12-2 ASUN), but would run out of gas before being able to stage the full comeback.

The Bears now lead the all-time series 6-1.

"They're (UCA) really good. They don't let you really settle into anything. They try to keep you uncomfortable the whole game, and they do a good job of it," said head coach Dave Moore. "They got really good players. They're deep. They're talented. They play really hard. They're really well coached. So, most of the credit goes to them. I think we fought hard. We got down early. We got down 19 points and battled back and cut it to three in the second half. Ultimately, we just didn't have enough shot making. You're not going to go into Central Arkansas."

UWG was led by Shelton Williams-Dryden's 21 points and seven rebounds on 40 percent (10-25) shooting. The Bears had a pair of 20-point scorers, with Ty Robinson dropping 23 points and Luke Moore scoring 21. Remarkably, Robinson shot 78 percent (7-9) from the field and 83 percent (5-6) from three.

Opening up today's ASUN road action with Brady Hardewig knocking down a three and Kenneth Chime recording four points from his pair of shots, UWG found themselves trailing 8-7 at the first media timeout.

Pulling down what felt like offensive rebound after offensive rebound, UCA began pulling away from the Pack thanks to second chance points. With under 13 minutes in the half, the Wolves trailed 23-13.

Continuing to attack the paint with high success, the Bears ballooned their lead to 39-22 by the seven-minute mark. At this point, UCA scored 24 of its points in the paint.

Finding themselves down 19 at one point in the half, the Wolves put their heads down and began going to work inside the arc. Chime continued to stay perfect from the field, hitting all five of his shots with close-range attacks.

Joining Chime on the inside attack, Shelton Williams-Dryden added a team-high 11 first half points to help the Wolves cut the lead to 44-35 by the break.

The second half kicked off with both teams struggling to hit their shots, with UWG going 0-of-3 from the field and UCA going 1-of-4 from the field to start.

Following the slow start, Malcolm Noel knocked down a pair of threes and Williams-Dryden began hitting his shots again, allowing the Wolves to storm all the back. With under 13 minutes left, UWG trailed 54-51.

With both teams falling back into a cold spell, the Wolves continued to trail by a couple of possessions by the time the eight minute media timeout was called.

After staging the double-digit comeback, West Georgia's offense started slowing down.

Capitalizing on the late UWG cold spell, UCA ran away with a 79-62 win.

West Georgia stays on the road to rematch Eastern Kentucky in Richmond, Kentucky next Wednesday.

Talking about the upcoming matchup, coach Moore stated, "They're going to be ready to go. EKU is a great environment to play in. They really care about basketball there. They'll have a good crowd. Coach Hamilton does a good job. They'll be ready to roll. They'll be ready to play hard. It'll be an up-and-down game. They like to press and play fast and do all that stuff. We've got to get ready for it. We've got to get our rest. We've got to go up there and put a game plan together and try to battle."
