CARROLLTON, Ga. - Huge postseason seeding implications are on the line on Saturday, February 21 as the UWG women's basketball team hosts Central Arkansas in a 2 p.m. tip-off on Senior Day in The Coliseum.
West Georgia (17-9, 10-5 ASUN) is in a three-way tie with Central Arkansas (17-10, 10-5 ASUN) and Stetson for third place, and with the Wolves already owning a head-to-head tie-breaker over Stetson, the Wolves look to even the season series against the Sugar Bears.
Back on January 21, UWG traveled to Conway and fell to UCA on their home floor in a game in which the Wolves hit 11 three-pointers and shot 44 percent from the field, but could not overcome a greater-than 50 percent night from UCA.
Now the Wolves host UCA in The Coliseum, where the Wolves are 12-2 on the season.
The Wolves have won two straight on the road and ride the momentum of an overtime win into Saturday's contest. UWG defeated Lipscomb in Nashville on Wednesday on Sydne Tolbert's three-pointer at the buzzer and the win marked the highest single-season win total for UWG under head coach Joanna Reitz.
Tolbert leads the Wolves in scoring at 14.3 points per game which ranks third in the league, and Tolbert elevates her game in league play, scoring 15.5 per night. Tolbert has scored 15-plus points in six of her last nine games including a career-high 30 points in the win at Austin Peay last Saturday. She enters Saturday's contest as the ASUN's leader in field goal percentage, connecting at a 45.4 percent clip.
And while Tolbert had the big shot at Lipscomb, it was Asia Donald who had a team-high 18 points and is tied with Tolbert for the team lead at 14.3 per game. Jasmine Jones is just behind that duo with 14.0 per game, ranking eighth in the league. Jones is fourth in the country in three-pointers per game, pouring in 3.15 per contest.
UCA is led by Shae Littleford who also scores 14.3 points per game as well as Cheyanne Kemp who adds 13.0 per contest. The Sugar Bears' Bree Stephens is one of the top post players in the league, averaging 7.0 rebounds per game while also blocking 1.7 shots per contest.
The all-time series between UWG and UCA is 3-1 in favor of Central Arkansas with Saturday's matchup just the second in Carrollton. UCA won 67-64 in Carrollton last season.
Saturday's Senior Day celebration is set for pregame and will begin at approximately 1:40 p.m. The Wolves will honor Becca Ledford, Gal-la Font, Jasmine Jones, Calie Thrower, Georgia Gray, and student assistant Anna Gernatt.
Tip-time is set for 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
