Late Surge From Central Arkansas Trips Up Wolves on Senior Day

CARROLLTON, Ga. - A game that was close for three and a half quarters got away from the UWG women's basketball team late as the Wolves fell to the Central Arkansas Sugar Bears by a 73-59 count on Saturday at The Coliseum.

West Georgia (17-10, 10-6 ASUN) led by six at halftime and four after three quarters, but a red-hot second half from Central Arkansas (18-9, 11-5 ASUN) spoiled Senior Day for the Wolves.

UWG was held to just eight made field goals in the second half as UCA outscored the Wolves 45-21 in the second half and 18-4 in the fourth quarter. UCA also hit all four of their three-pointers in the game in the second half.

Three Wolves finished in double-figures, led by 17 by Asia Donald. Jasmine Jones added 12 and Grace O'Gara added 10.

UWG and UCA played a tightly-contest quarter to open the game with UWG leading 20-17 after 10 minutes of play. The Wolves led by as much as eight out of the gate, and 15 of the Wolves' 20 points were evenly distributed from Sydne Tolbert, Asia Donald, and Jasmine Jones

Despite the UCA defense locking down and forcing eight UWG turnovers in the second quarter, UWG was able to add to their lead. A Grace O'Gara three-pointer with 58 seconds left in the half gave the Wolves a six-point, 34-28 lead.

UCA came out and chipped away until they tied the game up at the 5:35 mark and took their first lead of the half less than a minute later.

By the end of the third, UCA had extended their lead to four, and by the 7:20 mark of the final period, the Sugar Bears' lead had grown to double-figures and before the final whistle, UCA got their lead up to 20 points.

The Wolves shot 36.5 percent from the field while Central Arkansas finished 40.8 percent. The Sugar Bears also had a big advantage on the offensive glass, 17-7, while scoring a 20-7 advantage in second chance points.

West Georgia has two regular season games remaining, the first of which is set for Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Queens on the road in Charlotte.
