CHARLOTTE, Nc.- The University of West Georgia Women's Basketball team came up short Tuesday night, falling 72-62 to the Queens Royals.
After a slow UWG (17-11, 10-7 ASUN) start against Queens (10-18, 4-13 ASUN). The Wolves would fall short in an ASUN matchup on the road in Charlotte.
Queens raced out to a 13-3 lead before the first media timeout, setting the tone early in their final home game of the season. The Wolves would claw their way back by stringing a few key plays from
Grace O'Gara and
Asia Donald to bring the deficit to within three, 19-16 to end the quarter.
The second quarter opened up with a momentum swing with UWG knocking down a pair of quick baskets to take, 25-23 lead early in the quarter. However, the Royals would respond by closing out the half on a 17-2 run claiming a 40-27 lead at halftime.
After the break, the Royals would maintain control, keeping the Wolves at arm's length holding on to their double-digit lead throughout the quarter carrying a 55-44 lead into the final period.
West Georgia looked to ignite a comeback in the fourth, trimming the deficit to seven, but Queens would hold off the rally attempt from the Wolves and secure a 72-62 victory.
UWG will return to action on Friday in Florence, Alabama, facing North Alabama in the final game of the regular season. Tip off is set for 7:00 p.m.
