JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The UWG women's basketball team could not overcome an early deficit on Thursday night, falling 82-61 to Jacksonville in Atlantic Sun Conference road action.
West Georgia (14-8, 7-4 ASUN) fell behind to a Jacksonville (15-7, 7-4 ASUN) and could never erase the deficit, and had a tough night shooting on the road. The Wolves shot just 19-of-53 (35.8 percent) from the field and was 4-of-25 (16 percent) from three-point range.
In a physical game that featured 50 combined fouls, JU had the advantage at the stripe, converting 22-of-29 (75.9 percent) from the line while UWG was 19-of-28 (67.9 percent) from the line.
The Wolves were led by 15 points from Asia Donald and finished with four scorers in double-figures. Destiny Jones added 14 points to go with 10 rebounds while the guard duo of Sydne Tolbert and Grace O'Gara had 10 each.
UWG got off to a rough start offensively, shooting 20 percent from the field in the opening quarter. The Dolphins came out and buried a pair of threes in the opening quarter and jumped out to an 18-6 lead.
The Wolves settled in some offensively in the next quarter as both teams shot 50 percent from the field. Jacksonville took advantage of the Wolves' mistakes, turning four second-quarter turnovers into 11 points and leading by 17 at the halftime break.
Both teams played well in the third, with JU outscoring the Wolves by a one-point margin, 22-21 in the period.
The Wolves never could get any momentum going on the road in the final quarter, dropping their record away from The Coliseum to 2-7 on the year.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
- Jasmine Jones finished with nine points, in the process eclipsing 1,000 points for her collegiate career spanning stops at Chipola (FL), New Orleans, and West Georgia.
- It was the fifth double-double of the season for Destiny Jones and the 14th of her career.
