Wolves End Road Trip With A Win Against Ospreys

CARROLLTON, Ga- The University of West Georgia Women's Basketball Team finds themselves back in the win column securing a road victory against the North Florida Ospreys 75-68 and sweeping them in the season series 2-0.

UWG (15-8, 8-4 ASUN) bounces back against UNF (8-15, 3-9 ASUN) in Saturday's matchup in Jacksonville where the Wolves saw four double digit scorers and a double-double from Destiny Jones.

West Georgia got out to a blazing-hot start, scoring 10 consecutive points to open the first quarter. Sydne Tolbert and Destiny Jones led the way, each scoring four points during the run. North Florida found some momentum later in the quarter, cutting the Wolves' lead to five at 15-10, but before the buzzer sounded, West Georgia pushed the advantage back to nine and took a 19-10 lead into the second quarter.

The Ospreys found a rhythm, cutting the Wolves' lead to 22-20 and looking to flip the score for their first lead of the game. However, after a couple of defensive stops and some timely shot-making down the stretch by Asia Donald and Jasmine Jones, the Wolves went on a 10-0 run to extend their advantage. UWG's defensive prowess continued as they held UNF to just five points and closed the half on a 16-5 run, taking a 38-25 lead into halftime.

After the break, North Florida would come out firing on all cylinders outscoring the Wolves 21-11, and cutting the lead to just three points before the fourth quarter, 49-46.

West Georgia clinging on to a three-point lead needed a spark to close out the game and they got just that with huge three pointers by Grace O'Gara, Gal-la Font, and Sydne Tolbert to open up the final quarter. UWG extended their lead to 15 points, which was the biggest lead of the game. UNF wouldn't go away, going on an 11-0 run to cut the deficit to four with two minutes remaining in the game, 63-59. The Ospreys would end up fouling down the stretch and the Wolves went 11-12 from the free throw line to close out the game 75-68 and secure their eighth conference win of the season.
