Wolves Host Dolphins in the City of Dreams

CARROLLTON, Ga.- The UWG Wolves (10-13, 4-7 ASUN) return to the Coliseum on Saturday for the final game of a three-game homestand, welcoming Jacksonville (9-15, 4-7 ASUN) to the City of Dreams. Both teams enter the matchup with identical conference records and are looking to snap losing streaks, with West Georgia falling Thursday night to North Florida and the Dolphins coming off a loss to Queens. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. as the Wolves aim to bounce back on their home floor. Despite the setback, West Georgia once again leaned on Shelton Williams-Dryden, who delivered another dominant performance with 17 points, a game-high 16 rebounds, a block, and a steal while shooting perfect from the free throw line. The senior remains ranked second in the ASUN in scoring at 20.4 points per game and second in rebounding at 9.5 per contest. His outing also marked a milestone moment as he surpassed 1,000 career points at West Georgia, further highlighting his impact as an elite scorer. 

Malcolm Noel provided a strong spark off the bench, scoring 15 points and dishing out four assists to lead the Wolves' second unit. The senior guard has now posted back-to-back double-digit performances and continues to be a steady scoring presence. Josh Smith rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points, adding three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Smith ranks eighth in the ASUN in scoring at 15.3 points per game and has now started four consecutive contests for West Georgia.

Defensively, the Wolves showed resilience by recording 13 steals, eight blocks, and 25 defensive rebounds. JaVar Daniel led the defensive effort with six points, five rebounds, three steals, and three blocks, and he currently leads the conference with two blocks per game. Kolten Griffin added eight points, four rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. Griffin enters Saturday tied for the most starts in program history and will break the record with a start against Jacksonville. Xavier Shegog made an immediate impact in limited minutes, anchoring the interior with two blocked shots.

Jacksonville enters the contest after having five players in double figures against Queens. Chris Arias led the Dolphins with 18 points and seven rebounds on 70 percent shooting from the field. Donovan Rivers added 17 points, fueled by 14 free throw attempts. Hayden Wood, Jacksonville's leading scorer at just over 10 points per game, scored 12 points on perfect free throw shooting. Jaylen Jones also scored 12 points while shooting flawlessly from behind the arc, and Jason Thirdkill Jr. finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, and a block. Thirdkill Jr. ranks ninth in the conference in blocks per game at nearly one per night.

From a team standpoint, West Georgia averages 75.7 points per game while shooting 43 percent from the field and 34 percent from three-point range. The Wolves rank fourth in the ASUN in rebounding at 36 per game and lead the conference in blocks with five per contest. Jacksonville averages 72.6 points per game on 45 percent shooting and 33 percent from deep, while ranking fifth in the league in blocks at three per game.

The previous meeting in Jacksonville saw West Georgia get held to a season-low 43 points, adding extra motivation as the Wolves return home. Jacksonville holds a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series and the Wolves look to get their first win against the Dolphins in the City of Dreams.
