No. 4 Georgia Tech Overpowers UWG in Atlanta

ATLANTA, Ga. - West Georgia baseball was defeated 14-0 by No. 4 Georgia Tech tonight at Mac Nease Baseball Park at Russ Chandler Stadium.

America's top offensive team, GT (15-2, 2-1 ACC), jumped out to a big lead over UWG (3-14, 0-0 ASUN) and never looked back, going on to hand the Wolves its second loss to a top-ten opponent this season. Tonight marked the Yellow Jackets' 13th game scoring double-digits this year.

In the second at-bat of today's midweek matchup, Anthony Cole crushed a hard-hit ball that looked like it was going to clear the left field fence until a Yellow Jacket climbed the wall to rob the would-be homer.

During the bottom of the first, GT jumped out to a 1-0 lead thanks to a solo shot that had almost no arc over the right field fence.

After opening the second inning hitting into a double-play, the Yellow Jackets pushed its lead to 3-0 with a two-run homer. Still in the second, GT pushed its lead to 5-0 with their third home run of the day.

Georgia Tech continued its scoring streak in the third inning. Three base hit RBIs, an RBI double and a passed ball that allowed a Yellow Jacket to take home would put the hosts up 10-0.

After holding the hosts scoreless in the fourth, GT cracked home runs in the fifth and sixth to push its advantage 13-0.

A sacrifice fly in the sixth put the Yellow Jackets up 14-0. GT went on to win 14-0.

Making his third start, right-handed pitcher Maverick Torres struck out one Yellow Jacket and gave up one run in his lone inning, resulting in the sophomore getting tagged with his third loss of the season.

UWG returns to Cole Field to kick off conference play this weekend with a home series against Jacksonville. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
