West Georgia Drops Game Three Against Queens

Box Score CHARLOTTE, Nc. - The Wolves remained in Charlotte, Nc. this weekend to take on the Royals in game three of their second ASUN conference series of the season. After dropping game one yesterday, and splitting the series 1-1, Queens' batting proved too much for the Wolves, securing the series for the Royals.

This offensive battle fell short for the Wolves of West Georgia (11-21, 3-3 ASUN) against the Queens Royals (9-17, 2-4 ASUN). UWG only had eight hits in the final game of the series, while Queens was able to tack on 19 hits, including a walk-off grand-slam.

Game three of the series started off with a two-run home run over the left field wall, smacked out by Cacie Cutright. Her second home run of the weekend, and third of the season, got the Wolves off to an early 2-0 lead.

Queens responded to the Wolves offensive start by capitalizing on two hits, three stolen bases, and a walk, to tie the score 2-2 after the first inning.

The second inning proved scoreless for West Georgia, but Queens kept the momentum going. Three more hits for the Royals led to another run, making the score 3-2 heading into the third.

A failed stolen base attempt by the Royals led to a tag out by freshman catcher Victoria Hardy to end the second inning. The Wolves were able to escape the inning, only allowing one run.

Cacie Cutright continued her success at bat with a two RBI double in the third inning.

Mickey Coslor added on to the scoring with her own double in the third, bringing home Cutright, which made the score 5-3.

The Wolves defend their first scoreless inning of the game against the Royals in the bottom of the third after Megan Waites made a flying catch to collect out three.

After failing to bring home two stranded runners on the diamond, the fourth inning continued to be an unfortunate series of events for the Wolves. Two runs on two hits, with the help of a fielding error, allowed the Royals to tie the score 5-5 in the fourth.

Following a pitching change for the Wolves, an RBI single gave Queens the lead 6-5. Cacie Cutright escaped a bases loaded jam; that could have ended worse for the Wolves.

UWG responded with the speed of Mickey Coslor in the fifth inning. After reaching second on a fielding error, Coslor managed to steal third, and came home on an RBI double by Zekylah Boyd. The game stood tied 6-6 after five.

Back-to-back successful bunts loaded the bases with zero outs in the sixth inning for the Royals. A big strikeout by Cacie Cutright and two pop-ups allowed the Wolves to escape the jam.

A second bases loaded jam proved too much for West Georgia, as the Queens Royals were able to capitalize on their 19-hit game, by scoring a walk off grand-slam.

The Wolves were ultimately unable to hold off the third loaded-bases jam of the game for the Royals, and dropped game three 10-6, losing the conference series 2-1.

NOTABLE NUMBERS

- Cacie Cutright has hit three home runs this season, two of them came from this weekend.
