West Georgia Falls to Samford

CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia baseball dropped their midweek non-conference matchup against Samford, 12-1, on Tuesday.

Samford (13-14, 1-2 SoCon) exploded offensively against West Georgia (8-21, 5-4 ASUN), launching seven home runs and striking out nine batters on their way to a victory.

Samford jumped out early, scoring three runs on four hits in the first inning, highlighted by a solo home run from Cade Carr over the left field wall. Riding that momentum into the bottom half, Samford halted the Wolves' scoring chance with a crisp 6-4-3 double play.

With two outs in the top of the third, Parker McDonald extended the Bulldogs' lead to four with a solo shot of his own.

In the fourth inning, Blake Bradford delivered a perfectly timed defensive gem, climbing the wall in center field to take away a three-run home run. Bradford and Patrick McCullough delivered back-to-back hits in the bottom of the inning, but the Bulldogs held firm, recording three outs to end the threat.

In the next frame, Samford struck decisively, belting consecutive home runs over the left field wall. The Bulldogs' continued to add on in the fifth inning, taking advantage of a couple of errors by West Georgia and a single through the left side, making the score 8-0.

Fano Cruz drove in a run in the bottom of the fifth, to put the Wolves on the board.

Samford added four more runs in the sixth inning and four more runs in the seventh inning, hitting three more home runs over the two innings.

The Wolves stay at home to host Florida Gulf Coast in a three-game ASUN series this weekend. First pitch on Thursday is set for 6 p.m. at Cole Field.
