CARROLLTON, Ga. - West Georgia opened up their weekend series with Gardner-Webb with a 5-4 win in a low scoring thriller over the Runnin' Bulldogs.
West Georgia (8-15) prevailed in game one over Gardner-Webb (16-8) to give
Calli Hardison her third win of the season. The Wolves were able to take the lead off of two sixth innings runs to ultimately finish the Bulldogs off with a perfect fram from Hardison in the seventh inning.
Gardner-Webb opened the scoring with a two-out home run from Reese Collier over the left field fence, giving the Bulldogs an early 1-0 lead. West Georgia threatened in the bottom of the first after
Megan Waites led off with a single and stole second, but were unable to put a run on the board, until a two out home run to center field from designated player
Cacie Cutright in the second inning to tie it up at one a piece.
In response to giving up a run, Gardner-Webb scored two runs of their own off of three straight hits before an out was recorded in the top of the third.
The Wolves rallied for two runs in the fourth inning off two hits and two walks.
Jenna Samuel came around to score after Cutright drew a bases-loaded walk, picking up her second RBI of the game.
Zekylah Boyd then blooped a single into center field to bring in
Ella Oswalt, knotting the score at 3-3.
In the top of the sixth, Gardner-Webb capitalized on a throwing error, scoring on an infield single by pinch hitter Ly Forte to take a 4-3 lead. The Wolves answered in the bottom half of the inning, as
Zekylah Boyd and
Dixiana Sims each drew two-out walks. After both runners moved into scoring position on stolen bases, Boyd came home on a throwing error to tie the game. On the very next pitch,
