DeLand, Fl. - West Georgia softball remained in Florida today for game three of their ASUN conference series match up versus the Stetson Hatters.
After dropping the first two games of the series yesterday, the Wolves (13-35, 5-13 ASUN), fought hard to avoid a sweep, but unfortunately, a detrimental fifth inning allowed the Hatters (29-18, 14-4 ASUN) to claim game three.Â
The game was scoreless through the first two innings, before West Georgia earned four runs in the third inning.Â
Kristen Fowler doubled to start the inning and was followed up by a two-RBI home run by
Bekah Johnson, scoring an early 2-0 lead for the Wolves.Â
Another double, this time by
Dixiana Sims, and multiple singles scored another two Wolves during their two-out rally.
West Georgia held their 4-0 lead until the bottom of the fifth inning, where Stetson was able to score six runs on seven hits and a West Georgia error.Â
Down 6-4, the Wolves aimed to even the score in the top of the sixth, capitalizing on a throwing error by the Hatters, but were only able to get one run back.Â
Stetson base runners in the bottom of the sixth allowed the Hatters to extend their lead further, now 7-5.
Although UWG tacked on one more run in the seventh, a late two-out rally at the end of the game fell short for the Wolves.Â
West Georgia softball will be back in action at home, this Tuesday, at 5:00 p.m. ET. This will be their final midweek match up of the season, against Samford.Â
