CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG softball team fell 14-6 on Tuesday afternoon to the Samford Bulldogs in non-conference action.
West Georgia (13-36) led after two innings, but were outscored 14-4 over the final five frames by Samford (23-26).
The Bulldogs struck first with Brandy Phillips slugging a two-run home run in the top of the first, but in the bottom half, an error following a Madison McDonald double allowed Tamia Young to score to cut the deficit in half.
Bekah Johnson singled in two runs to give UWG a second-inning lead, and then Madison Humber added another with an RBI single of her own.
Samford responded with back-to-back home runs by Katie Campbell and the second Phillips home run. A single added another to make it 5-4.
In the fourth, a home run from Olivia Shaw stretched the lead to two at 6-4 and then Ella Nelson hit the fifth home run of the day for the Bulldogs, a grand slam in the sixth to make it a 10-4 Bulldog advantage.
Samford got four more in the top of the seventh, and UWG got two in the bottom half on a two-RBI single by Delaney Hoyle.
Humber and McDonald each had two hits for the Wolves. Stetson had 16 hits as a team including two players, Phillips and Nelson, with four hits each.
