JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The UWG softball team fell in both games of a Saturday road doubleheader at North Florida, falling 9-1 and 8-1 to drop the series to the Ospreys.
After winning Friday's opener, West Georgia (14-38, 6-15 ASUN) was outscored 17-2 on Saturday while the North Florida (35-28, 10-11 ASUN) pitching staff held the Wolves to three hits in the doubleheader.
GAME ONE
The Wolves struck first in the first game of the day, as Mickey Coslor reached on a hit by pitch, and later scored after an error and a wild pitch.
That would be all the Ospreys would surrender as the home team then struck for two in the bottom half and scored in every inning through the sixth to run-rule the Wolves in game two of the series.
UNF made it 3-1 in the fourth and then added two in the fifth before a a four-run sixth ended the game there.
West Georgia had just two hits with Jenna Samuel and Madison McDonald recording the only hits for the Wolves.
GAME TWO
North Florida's Cameron Ponich had a no-hitter through five innings until Bekah Johnson broke it up and got the only hit for the Wolves.
By that time, UNF had already scored six runs, jumping out to a 3-0 lead on first inning, back-to-back home runs. A walk, single, and another home run then made it 6-0 in the third, and the Ospreys added two more after UWG got on the board in the sixth.
UWG scored on a heads up play by Mickey Coslor, scoring from second on a groundout as noone covered the plate.
UP NEXT
The losses knock UWG out of postseason contention, but the Wolves will host Queens in a three-game series next weekend to wrap up the 2025-26 season. The series is set to begin on Friday with a doubleheader before wrapping up on Saturday at noon.
