UWG Bats Fall Quiet in Game Two Loss to North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fl - The West Georgia baseball team falls in Jacksonville Friday night, 4-1.

UNF (30-22, 21-8 ASUN) claimed the series over UWG (13-40, 10-19) winning game two 4-1 on Friday night. All five runs in the contest were scored within the first three innings before both pitching staffs settled in and kept the scoreboard quiet over the final six frames. The Ospreys used a three-run third inning, capped by a two-run home run, to take control of the game while holding the Wolves' offense to just three hits on the night.

North Florida strung together three consecutive two out singles in the bottom half of the first, to score a run. The Ospreys scored in the first inning for the second consecutive game of the series.

Small ball in the second inning put the Wolves on the board. A leadoff double by Gabe Young, a sacrifice bunt by Mason Cooper, and a sacrifice fly by Landon Weidner tied the game up at one apiece.

UWG threatened in the third inning, drawing a hit by pitch and a walk to leadoff the inning, but UNF was able to escape the jam with a timely double play. Riding the momentum from the defensive side, the Ospreys' bats put together a three run inning
highlighted by a two run home run over the left field wall, taking the lead 4-1.


North Florida threatened in the fifth with runners on the corners with two outs, but relief pitcher Rowan Park came into the game and struck out his lone batter in the inning to get the Wolves out of the jam.

The Wolves defense turned a 6-4-3 double play in the seventh inning to end the Ospreys chances at scoring. Rowan park 

West Georgia starter Maverick Torres was charged with the loss, despite striking out four batters in four innings, as UWG fell 4-1.

West Georgia will play their final game of the season tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at Harmon Stadium 

NOTABLE NUMBERS
-Weidner's sacrifice fly gives him 13 RBI on the year.

-Relief pitcher Gunnar Plante recorded two strikeouts in his two-thirds inning pitched.

-Patrick McCullough's single up the middle in the sixth, extends his on-base streak to 34 games and his hit streak to 16 games.

-The bullpen pitched four innings of scoreless relief.
