UWG Baseball Drops Game Two at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. - West Georgia baseball fell 10-5 to Florida Gulf Coast in Saturday night's game two of the road ASUN action.

After jumping out to an early advantage, UWG (13-36, 10-16 ASUN) had to clash with the Eagles (32-17, 15-10 ASUN) in a back-and-forth battle that saw three lead changes, with the hosts ending out on top to clinch the ASUN series.

Coming off a tight 7-6 loss in the series opener, UWG flipped the script by being the first to strike in game two. During the top of the second, Anthony Cole took advantage of a wild pitch that got lost in the dirt to reach home from third and give UWG a 1-0 lead. Jacob Bowman then plated another run by cracking a single to left field, extending the Pack's advantage to 2-0.

It took until the third frame for FGCU to respond. Going through the Eagles' lineup for the second time today, FGCU drilled a solo home run to dash the UWG lead to 2-1.

Over the two frames, the hosts overtook and then extended their edge to 4-2 with a pair of RBI singles.

The back-and-forth battle would continue in the sixth when Mason Cooper drove in a run with an RBI base hit. Fano Cruz followed it up with a two-run homer to give UWG a 5-4 advantage.

That lead held until FGCU lined an RBI base hit to right field to lock the game at five all. This was followed by a fielding error that allowed another Eagle to reach home.

FGCU continued their scoring swing with an RBI single and a three-run homer in the eighth to extend their cushion to 10-5.

The Wolves would go on to fall by five.

UWG returns to Swanson Stadium on Sunday to close out the series with an 11 a.m. finale. Streaming and live stat links are available on the West Georgia baseball schedule.
