CARROLLTON, Ga.- The University of West Georgia women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Middle Tennessee State University Sunday afternoon at University Soccer Field, moving the Wolves to 0-3-1 on the season and MTSU to 3-0-1.

Middle Tennessee State controlled much of the opening half, recording five shots and four shots on goal while the Wolves were held without a shot. UWG goalkeeper Emily Sanabria kept the Blue Raiders off the scoreboard for most of the half, making three saves in the opening 45 minutes.

MTSU broke through when Saachi Bureau found the back of the net at the 14:53 mark to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 advantage.

Sanabria and the Wolves' defense kept the deficit at one heading into halftime, with the sophomore goalkeeper making three saves before Siani Jones made her first appearance of the season in the second half.

MTSU extended its lead early in the second half, as Ania Denham scored at 51:30 with an assist from Hannah Murphy to make it 2-0.

Despite giving up an early goal, Jones remained strong for the Wolves and had an impressive season debut, making six saves in the second half. The Blue Raiders continued to apply pressure after halftime, recording 11 second-half shots and putting seven on target.

UWG generated its first and only shot of the match in the second half, with Morgan Setzer recording the Wolves' lone attempt. Middle Tennessee State held a 16-1 advantage in shots and a 9-0 edge in shots on goal while also earning seven corner kicks compared to one for UWG.

Despite the offensive struggles, Jones and the Wolves' defense continued to battle through the final whistle, keeping MTSU from adding to its two-goal advantage.

The loss gives UWG its third consecutive defeat after the Wolves battled Jacksonville State to a tie in the season opener.

The Wolves will now have an extended break before returning to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, when UWG hosts Western Carolina at 1 p.m. at University Soccer Field for Senior Day. The Wolves will recognize their four seniors prior to the match.
