CARROLLTON, Ga.- West Georgia Volleyball opens the 2026 season by hosting the UWG Tournament this weekend (Aug. 28-29) at The Coliseum. This is the first time the Wolves have opened the season at home since the 2020 season. The Wolves look to face Northwestern State and Grambling State Friday, Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. and then at 6 p.m. The following day UWG will then face Presbyterian College Saturday Aug. 29 at 4 p.m.
UWG Head coach Adam Milewski is looking for his first win as a Division I head coach after joining the Wolves from Division II Lynn University, where he won the 2024 Division II Volleyball National Championship. Milewski is looking to bring new energy to the court after bringing in eight transfers, five first-year students, while four returners made the roster for this season.
Two returners for the Wolves include sophomore Valiree Schmus, and redshirt junior Grace-Blythe Cornett. Schmus concluded the 2025 season leading the team in kills with 249, points-per-set with 3.10, and service aces tied with 24. The 6-foot-1 Flowery Branch, Georgia native Grace-Blythe Cornett conceded her season second behind Schmus with 215 kills and 2.57 points-per-set.
West Georgia (0-0) vs. Northwestern State (0-0) Aug. 28th at 2 p.m.
Northwestern State faces UWG for the first time on Aug. 28 at 2 p.m. The Demons out of Natchitoches, Louisiana concluded the 2025 season 1-29 last year and returns five from last season's roster. Outside hitter Elise Sanchez-Oliver looks to return for her sophomore season after missing 10 games last season with injury. Despite missing games, Sanchez-Oliver still managed to finish the season with a 2.19 points-per-set average, third highest on the team. Northwestern State is led by second year head coach Ben Kaszeta.
West Georgia (0-0) vs. Grambling State (0-0) Aug. 28th at 6 p.m.
Grambling State will face UWG on Aug. 28 at 6 p.m., making it the first time the Wolves and the Tigers have faced. After finishing 8-19 overall last season, Grambling is returning with experience retaining 10 Tigers from last season roster, including outside hitter Kenya Lucas. The 6-foot senior concluded the 2025 season leading the team last season in kills with 228, giving her 2.71 kills-per-set. Grambling State is led by first year head coach Daniel Cabrera.
West Georgia (0-0) vs. Presbyterian College (0-0) Aug. 29th at 4 p.m.
Presbyterian College will look to face the Wolves on Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. UWG faced the Blue Hose last season, with Presbyterian taking the game 3-1. Second-year head coach Maddie Moore is a familiar face for UWG as she was a graduate assistant from 2023-2024 while obtaining her Masters. After completing the 2025 season 6-20, Presbyterian returns two returners for the '26 season is Courtney Williams and Julia Yurkovich. Yurkovich led the team in kills with 262, and Williams behind her with 197.
