RICHMOND, Ky.- The University of West Georgia women's soccer team (0-7-2, 0-2 UAC) fell 2-1 to Eastern Kentucky (6-4-1, 2-0 UAC) on Sunday afternoon in its first conference road match of the season.

The Colonels started the match firing off three shots, including two on goal, within the first four minutes. UWG held off EKU's offense until the 24th minute, when Peyton Smith scored her third goal of the week off an assist from Avery May after coming off a brace in the Colonels' conference opener.

Toward the end of the first half, the Wolves started to find success generating offense, with Breanna DeWinter recording UWG's lone shot on goal of the half in the 42nd minute, just five minutes after subbing in. The Wolves' only other shot came from freshman Adelyn O'Bryan one minute before DeWinter's attempt.

UWG held EKU to one goal for the remainder of the first half despite the Colonels recording 17 shots, including five on goal, and four corner kicks. Emily Sanabria, the UAC's leader in saves, recorded two saves in the first half to lead the Wolves' defense and prevent EKU from extending its lead.

Just six minutes into the second half, Kaylen Brown scored her first goal of the season and fourth of her career on a penalty kick after being fouled by Regan Reilly in the box, tying the match at 1-1.

UWG remained aggressive while looking to take the lead, with Isa Ramirez and Payton Ramsay each recording shots on goal following Brown's goal. Through the first 15 minutes of the second half, UWG took five shots with three on goal and defended well, with Sanabria adding two more saves to her total and finishing the match with six saves.

The match remained tied until the 83rd minute, when Avery May recorded the match-winning goal with assists from Chiara Premoli and Peyton Smith to put the Colonels ahead. Ultimately, UWG could not find the equalizer and fell 2-1 in its second conference match of the season.

In the end, EKU outshot the Wolves 26-8 and held a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. The Colonels also earned nine corner kicks compared to UWG's one.

The Wolves will continue UAC play on Sunday, October 4, when they face Austin Peay at University Soccer Field. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
