CARROLLTON, Ga.- West Georgia would fall to UAC foe North Alabama in three sets Tuesday night. The Wolves will look to Thursday night when they host Central Arkansas in Carrollton at 6 p.m.
SET ONE: Opening the first set with a Brooke McCall kill and a Lion service error to tie the game at 2-2. North Alabama would then go on a 4-0 run to take a 6-2 lead over UWG. West Georgia would cut into that deficit with three straight points, including a block from Schmus and Kirmer, narrowing the score 6-5. Cornett and Cetkovic would team up on another block to fuel a 3-0 run late in the set, but that would not be enough, dropping the set 25-14 to UNA.
SET TWO: Beginning the second set with a Grace-Blythe Cornett kill to cut into an early 3-1 UNA lead. The Wolves would not be able to catch the hot-hitting Lions, ultimately taking set two 25-15. West Georgia would see an ace a piece from Ourednikova, Medrano and Schmus and Courtney Joseph would come off the bench to add two kills.
SET THREE: UWG would finish strong with a 4-0 run late, powered by kills from Cornett, Kirmer and Schmus and an ace from Cassie Thayse. Cetkovic would Cornett combine for a block in the set as well but would drop the final set 25-12.
Valiree Schmus led with 8 kills, Anežka Ouredníková ; had 16 assists and 9 digs, Hannah Nicholson added a career-high 9 digs, and Cornett had 6 kills and 2 blocks. UWG finished with 37 digs and 4 aces. Maddy Kirmer would stuff the Lions once to continue her streak of 15 games with recording at least one block. UWG as a team would add four service aces to hold their lead in the UAC in service aces.
