Wolves Drop Five Set Clash to the A&M Bulldogs

KENNESAW, Ga. - West Georgia volleyball fell 3-2 to Alabama A&M on Friday at Kennesaw State.

After dropping the opening set 25-23, UWG (1-3) battled back to take sets two and three, 29-27 and 25-23, before going on to fall 27-25 and 15-8 to the Bulldogs (4-1).

For the first time in her college career, outside hitter Brooke McCall reached the 20-point mark, finishing the day with a UWG-best 23 points fueled by 21 kills. Middle blocker Maddy Kirmer also recorded a notable career-high, finishing the match with a team-best five blocks.

SET ONE
Set one of the Wolves' first road trip of 2026 saw UWG and Alabama A&M trading points through the opening few volleys. With the match stuck in a stalemate, A&M needed to capitalize on a pair of service aces and two kills to create a 13-9 cushion, forcing head coach Adam Milewski to call a timeout. Coming out of the break, UWG took advantage of an A&M error and stuffed back-to-back blocks courtesy of setter Anežka Ouredníková, Kirmer and McCall to cut the deficit down to 15-14. The Wolves stayed on the Bulldogs' tails for the remainder of the set, but could not overtake a lead despite locking the match at 22-22. UWG fell 25-23 after making two costly mistakes and allowing A&M to record a set-winning kill.

SET TWO
The Wolves came out swinging in the second set, taking an early 3-0 lead behind a kill and solo block from right side hitter Grace-Blythe Cornett before outside hitter Valiree Schmus added a service ace. Regardless of the hot start from UWG, the Bulldogs weren't ready to roll over quite yet. With A&M outside hitter Rayishon Jackman continuing to push the pace and the Wolves making consecutive errors, the Bulldogs quickly grabbed a tight advantage over the Pack. The set stayed knotted up until A&M went on a 6-0 run to leave UWG in the dust, down 17-11. Despite momentum on the Bulldogs' side, West Georgia continued to battle. Taking it one volley at a time, UWG began digging themselves out of the hole by outlasting A&M through long rallies. Before the Bulldogs knew what hit them, the Wolves had knotted the set at 23-23. UWG went on to take a 29-27 set two win after McCall crushed back-to-back kills to put the Bulldogs to bed.

SET THREE
West Georgia's opening road match of 2026 continued to stay ultra-competitive through set three. It was a back-and-forth battle from the start, as the lead changed hands six times in the race to 15 points, with neither team able to pull away by more than a single point. By the time A&M reached the 15-point mark, the set had also been tied an incredible 13 times. With the Wolves locking the match at 15 apiece, A&M recorded three consecutive kills to grab their biggest lead of the set and force UWG to call a timeout. Momentum would swing back in the Wolves' favor coming out of the break thanks to three straight A&M errors. With the Pack leading late, UWG was able to hold on to grab a 25-23 set three win after McCall again tallied back-to-back kills to close things out.

SET FOUR
Adding three more kills to her already impressive tally, McCall heavily contributed to the Wolves building a 6-3 lead to kick off set four. A&M quickly recovered by stringing together a 7-1 run thanks to a handful of UWG attack errors. Settling back in, West Georgia responded with a run of their own to take a 16-14 lead following a pair of Cornett kills. UWG maintained a two-point advantage until A&M capitalized on a Wolves' service error and followed with a service ace to even the set at 23-23. Even with UWG reaching 25 first, A&M recorded a three-point swing to grab a 27-25 victory and force a fifth set.

SET FIVE
The fifth and final set opened with UWG jumping out to a 4-0 lead following a pair of A&M service reception errors. Despite the hot start from the Wolves, A&M would take full control of the fifth set. The Bulldogs would string a 15-4 run to earn a 15-8 fifth set win over UWG.

The Wolves' schedule has the Pack staying at Kennesaw State to take on the Owls tonight at 6 p.m.  Due to technical difficulties, KSU is no longer streaming the match. A link to live stats is tagged on the UWG volleyball schedule.
