UWG Drops Saturday's Contest at Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga.- West Georgia (1-5) fell to Georgia State (2-4) in three-straight sets Saturday in Atlanta. This was their third match of the Kennesaw State Tri-Match hosted between Kennesaw State and Georgia State. 

SET ONE
The first set began with the two clubs trading points back and forth. Keeping the Wolves within fighting distance, Brooke McCall recorded two early kills and a block assist to keep it tight at 6-7, Panthers leading. The Wolves then strung together a four-point run, powered behind Valiree Schmus's two service aces and a kill from Grace-Blythe Cornett, pushing the score to 13-12 in favor of GSU. Cornett would then help the Wolves again after recording back-to-back kills and then a Brooke McCall kill to tie it up at 21 a piece. GSU would then go on a 4-0 scoring run to take the first set 25-21.   

Set TWO: 
Beginning with a 3-0 West Georgia run behind two Anežka Ouredníková service aces and a Grace Blythe-Cornett kill, the Wolves showed up early before giving up a 6-0 Panther run to make the score 3-6 GSU. West Georgia managed a 4-0 run thanks to multiple errors by GSU, closing the gap on GSU 10-16. UWG would go on to drop the second set to the Panthers 25-13. 

Set THREE: 
West Georgia broke a 3-0 run with Valiree Schmus serving, pulling away from GSU 8-6, highlighted Courtney Joseph and Brooke McCall both recording their second block assists of the night. At the media break UWG was down 11-15. The Wolves would go on to drop the third set 18-25.  

West Georgia finished hitting .039 compared to Georgia State's .238. Brooke McCall finished leading the team in kills with 11, behind her Grace Blythe-Cornett with nine.  
The Wolves return to The Coliseum Friday (9/11) to host the UWG Volleyball Classic. Facing Gardner-Webb at 2p.m. and New Orleans at 6p.m. Friday, and the Mercer Bears Saturday at 4.p.m.
