Volunteer with UWG Sports Medicine

Get involved with UWG Sports Medicine!

The Department of Sports Medicine at the University of West Georgia is looking to provide volunteering opportunities for interested undergraduate students. In addition to the application, letters of reference and in-person interviews may be required. Even with that, only students who are able to make the time commitment and prove their ability and readiness to work in this field, and have a sense of passion for sports medicine, are selected.

The volunteer internship will provide students will real hands-on experience and learning with certified athletic trainer, team physicians, and other sports medicine professionals in the evaluation, treatment, and care of athletic injuries in UWG Sports Medicine setting.

Certified athletic trainers, who directly evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate the injured athletes will be your direct supervisors. UWG Sports Medicine works with an outstanding core group of team physicians, with specialists ranging from primary care to orthopedics. UWG has extensive Division II intercollegiate athletics, supporting 13 teams. Our volunteer positions, called Sports Medicine Interns, are vital to our success in providing care for our athletics teams, primarily UWG football. UWG Sports Interns not only help with daily activities of the athletic training room and team practices, but will also work sidelines for most home games and even travel to some away competitions. You will gain great experience while monitoring rehabilitation programs, assist in evaluating athletic injuries, being taught to administer many different types of modalities in the treatment of injured athletes, and helping the athletic training staff to maintain the facilities and record keeping.
