UWG Legends Track Meet

The University of West Georgia's track and field team will host the third annual UWG Legends Track Meet on Friday, April 4th and Saturday, April 5th, 2025.

In honor of the legends who built the program, head coach Ryan Bailey has named the first meet at UWG in more than 40 years the UWG Legends Invitational Track Meet. The history of the UWG Track Complex is unique, as the track was built in the 1970s, hosting the last meet in 1985. It was then renovated in 1995 by the US Olympic committee to allow for the Ukrainian National Team to practice for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.

In the fall of 2021, renovations began on the track facility for the first time since that 1995 remodel. The track has now been completely resurfaced, a long jump pit has been added, all runways have also been resurfaced and upgrades to the hammer throw cage, and shot-put arena have been made.

Spikes: ¼” pyramid spikes only! Spikes may be checked at the Clerking Tent and at Field Event sites. Any athlete that is caught using spikes other than ¼” pyramid may be told to change them out prior to competing or may be disqualified from that event.

Field Event Attempts & Starting Heights: Athletes will get 6 attempts in all Throws and Horizontal Jumps if the field size is 9 or lower. If the field size grows large enough to affect the meet schedule, minimum marks may be required. Starting minimum heights will be determined after registration closes. If used, typical heights in PV is 2.37m (Women) and 3.02m (Men). High Jump opening heights will be 1.32m/1.62m. All legal marks in the LJ and TJ will be measured.

MINIMUM MARKS IN THROWING EVENTS: Efforts will be made to mark all legal attempts - unless the field size grows to a size that creates scheduling issues for the officials. Minimum marks will be introduced only if absolutely necessary.

RELAY CARDS:  Relay Cards will be inside of the meet packet and must be filled out and turned into the starting line clerk when checking in. Only one member of the relay team needs to check in at the clerking tent but must have the relay card filled out and with them in order to check in.
