UWG Sports Medicine
The staff of the University of West Georgia Sports Medicine Department strives to provide all of our athletes the best and most modern health care available.
As a staff, UWG Sports Medicine consists of three full-time Certified Athletic Trainers and one Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer. Our Team General Physician is Dr. Michael Poss, MD and our Team Orthopedist is Dr. Greg Slappey, MD of the Carrollton Orthopedic Clinic.
Dr. Poss provides medical coverage to all or our athletes and is helpful in setting up non-orthopedic medical referrals. Dr. Slappey and Carrollton Orthopedic Clinic insures that all our orthopedic needs are met locally and promptly. They provide the most modern care available.
Dr. Leslie Cottrell serves as Associate Team Physician and leads the staff of UWG Health Services as they serve the UWG Community and providing healthcare to our athletes and student body. Dr. Cottrell is very hands on with our athletes and helps make sure our athletes are well treated.
Our local hospital is Tanner Medical Center and is located within two miles of our campus and athletic facilities. Tanner is the Emergency Care Center for the west Georgia area. They also provide us with local MRIs, CAT Scans, and other medical procedures.
