Carrollton, GA - Facing the fourth nationally ranked opponent of the season thus far and the second in as many weeks, the UWG football team struggled on the road against 21st-ranked West Alabama, falling by a 45-14 count to the Tigers at Tiger Stadium Saturday evening.
Turnovers hurt the Wolves on this night, as West Georgia passed for more than 200 yards in the game, but four turnovers, including an interception in the end zone, were too much to overcome. In addition, the UWA offense put up more than 500 yards of offense, including more than 300 on the ground.
The Tigers scored on their first three possessions of the game while keeping the Wolves' offense at bay. The Wolves threatened to score late in the first half, but an interception from Demetruce McNeal on a #
Dallas Dickey# pass ended the threat and the Wolves went into the break trailing 21-0.
West Alabama scored twice more in the second half before West Georgia was able to get on the board. Late in the third quarter, the Wolves engineered a pair of touchdown drives. Dickey had touchdown passes to close out each drive, one for 11 yards to #
Bobby Burum# and a 23-yarder to #Denarius Appling#.
The Wolves rushed for 201 yards in the game, led by Dickey, who had 12 rushes for 69 yards in the game. Junior #
Derick Seward# also had seven carries for 61 yards. Burum was the leading receiver, catching five passes for 80 yards and a touchdown in the game.
West Georgia returns to the confines of University Stadium next week, taking on Florida Tech on Thursday evening in the GSC-TV Live Game of the Week. Kickoff for that game is set for 7:30 p.m.
