CARROLLTON, Ga. - The UWG Department of Athletics, in conjunction with the United Athletic Conference, announced today a finalized 2026 football schedule, playing an 12-game slate in the third year of Division I football and the first under head coach Steve Englehart.
The 2026 schedule features six games at home and six on the road, and a seven-game UAC schedule that was announced in December with the addition of a November 21 home game against the newest member of the UAC, West Florida.
"We are excited to finally be able to publicize this very challenging schedule for our fans and followers. We look forward to seeing our fans and supporters rally around this schedule, both at home and on the road," said Director of Athletics Jason Carmichael. "Year Three of the NCAA Division I journey, and Year One of the Englehart Experience is certainly something we don't want any UWG supporters to miss out on, so get your calendars ready today!"
UWG opens the season on a Thursday night at University Stadium against Chattanooga. It's the second consecutive season that UWG will open the season on a Thursday, and the first Thursday night game at University Stadium since 2023.
The next week also features a Thursday night battle between a pair of in-state foes as UWG and Kennesaw State meet for the first time ever on the gridiron on September 3 in Kennesaw.
The next two weeks also take UWG on the road as the Wolves go to Arkansas State on September 12 in Jonesboro and then make a return trip to East Tennessee State on September 19.
West Georgia will return home to host Fort Valley State on September 26 before a bye week on October 3.
United Athletic Conference play begins on the road with a trip to EKU. UWG's other road games in conference play are Abilene Christian and Central Arkansas. The Wolves will host Austin Peay, Tarleton State, North Alabama and West Florida at University Stadium in league play in 2026.
UWG's first two home games will be night games, kicking off at 7 p.m. against Chattanooga and 6 p.m. for the Fort Valley State contest. The final four home games, Austin Peay, Tarleton State, North Alabama and West Florida will kick off at 2 p.m.
"We are excited to announce our 2026 schedule," said head coach Steve Englehart, who is preparing for his first season at the helm of the UWG program. "Not only will the UAC schedule be challenging, but we have also put together a very strong and exciting non-conference schedule including two FBS opponents. As a coach, I like the fact that our bye week is scheduled for the week before conference play starts and love that we are at University Stadium to start and finish the season. With UWF entering the conference, we are excited to renew an old rivalry."
Homecoming is slated for the October 24 game against Tarleton State. Other theme dates will be finalized and announced at a later date.
