Carrollton, GA - Playing on the rain-soaked field at University Stadium Saturday evening, the UWG Wolves fell to 25th-ranked Midwestern State, as the Mustangs' rushing attack took down West Georgia 38-28.
The Wolves' rushing attack has been the talk of the first two games of the season, but against Midwestern State, it was the passing attack, as senior quarterback #
Austin Trainor# passed for a career-high 238 yards, completing 14-of-27 passes with two touchdowns.
Midwestern State struck first with just over five minutes gone in the game with Dante Taylor's 13-yard run. After the extra point, the Mustangs led 7-0.
West Georgia's next drive stalled, but on the ensuing punt, a MSU blocker touched the ball and long-snapper #
Chase Penland# pounced on it, giving the Wolves the ball at the Mustang 37. Four plays later, sophomore quarterback #
Dallas Dickey# tied the game with a 10-yard touchdown run.
Two straight Midwestern State scores put the Wolves in a 21-7 hole with just over seven minutes left in the first half.
With 4:29 left, the Wolves brought out the fireworks, as Dickey mounted a 47-yard drive that culminated with a nine-yard touchdown pass to #
Bobby Burum#, pulling UWG to within a touchdown at 21-14 with 1:17 remaining in the first half.
But West Georgia wasn't done, as MSU quarterback Jake Glover fumbled on the second play on the ensuing drive and defensive end #
Nathan Teter# recovered the fumble at the Midwestern State 26. Two plays later, Trainor found Burum over the middle and the senior receiver did the rest, pounding his way into the endzone for his second touchdown in less than a minute, tying the game at 21-21 heading into the halftime break.
On that pass, Burum also stepped into the UWG record books, as he became the 10th player in school history to surpass 1,000 yards receiving in a career.
In the third quarter, the Mustangs scored a touchdown and with 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, added another for a 35-21 advantage.
Late in the fourth quarter, the Wolves blocked a field goal and Trainor found #
