Carrollton, GA - It's been five years since the West Georgia Wolves and Montevallo Falcons have played a men's basketball game, but that streak ends on Saturday afternoon, as the Wolves head to Trustmark Arena in Montevallo, Ala. to take on the Falcons for the first time since the spring of 2009. UWG comes into the game with a 4-0 record on the year while Montevallo sits at 2-4 this season.
UWG vs. Montevallo
While it may seem like it due to recent years, the Wolves and Falcons are no strangers, as Saturday's meeting between the two programs will be the 39th in the series history. West Georgia holds a slight 21-17 lead in that series, but Montevallo won the last meeting, 103-98 in 2009, the last season that the Falcons were in the Gulf South Conference.
Wolves' Offensive Explosion
The UWG offense seems here to stay, as through the first four games of the 2014-15 season,West Georgia has scored no less than 78 points in any game. The Wolves have gone over the 100-point mark twice and beat Carver by an 87-73 spot on Wednesday afternoon in The Coliseum. But with UWG averaging 95.2 points per game, only four players are averaging in double-figures.
Bernard moves into double-figures
One place where the Wolves need support this season is on the blocks, as the lineup is depleted of size this year. Senior
Emory Bernard has been that spot, as he is coming off of a 12-point game against Carver, his third straight in double-figures, which moved him to average 10.3 points per game as the fourth UWG player averaging more than 10 points.
Sharing, Take care of the ball and Defense
Three tenants to live by in the world of basketball would be those three, and the fact that UWG is doing them in abundance has a lot to do with the scores so far. The Wolves have a 67-40 assist-turnover ratio while opponents have a 49-70 ratio.
