Carrollton, GA - After a 10-day hiatus from the competitive court, the UWG men's basketball team is set to return to Gulf South Conference basketball at The Coliseum on Sunday afternoon against Alabama Huntsville, with the tip of that game set for 4:00 p.m. or approximately 25 minutes after the women's game.
UWG vs. Alabama Huntsville
The Wolves and Chargers will meet on Saturday for the 48th time in the history of the series. For the first half of the history between these two programs, the Wolves held the advantage, as West Georgia won 16 of the first 27 meetings between the two. Alabama has been on a roll as a program lately and comes into the game ranked 15th in the nation. UAH has won nine of the last 13 meetings and five of the last six, but West Georgia won the most recent meeting, last February in Carrollton.
GSC Opens with a sweep
The Wolves made history with a sweep over Delta State in Walter Sillers Coliseum in the GSC opener 10 days ago, then continued a hot start with a 92-81 victory over Mississippi College last Saturday in Clinton, MS.
Marcus Dortch led the Wolves to a win at Delta State with 19 points, then
Alex Abreu went off against the Choctaws with 31 points to lead UWG to the victory and a 7-0 start to the season.
Abreu: 30-point threat
Abreu led the Wolves with 31 points against Mississippi College, his second 30-point output of the season, as he had 30 points two games ago against Montevallo. He has been one of the most consistent three-point threats for the Wolves this season as well, as he has hit 24-of-51 from three-point range, a 47 percent output for the year.
Rebounding stays strong
Despite being a team that is guard heavy, as three of the four starters for the Wolves agaisnt Mississippi College could be characterized as a guard, West Georgia is holding its own in the rebounding department this season. The Wolves have outrebounded opponents by a 268-264 total on the year, outrebounding two opponents, going even with three and losing the rebounding battle to two.
