UWG vs. Mississippi College
This weekend's meeting with the Mississppi College Choctaws marks the 19th in the history of the series, dating back to when the Choctaws were in the Gulf South Conference in the 1980s and early 90s. The last time these two teams met was in the 1993-94 season, when West Georgia won a shootout by a 109-107 tally in overtime. This will be the second Gulf South Conference game for Mississippi College since the 1993-94 season.
Sweep in Cleveland
The UWG basketball squads achieved something that no other season has brought on Thursday night at Walter Sillers Coliseum in Cleveland, as the men's and women's squad beat Delta State in the GSC Opener. The women's squad at UWG has only one win in school history in Cleveland and there has never been a night where West Georgia swept DSU in Sillers.
Dortch and Cochran at Delta
Coming into Thursday's game,
Taylor Cochran had started the first five games of the season for UWG, but
Marcus Dortch got the start against DSU. Dortch had 13 of his team-high 19 points in the first half to lead the Wolves. Cochran came on strong in the second half with 14 points to put the game away down the stretch.
Five in Double-Figures
The UWG offense has been one of the most prolific in the nation through the first six games of the season, but the scoring has primarily been coming from three players. West Georgia had five players in double-figures against Delta State, marking just the second time this season that the Wolves have accomplished that feat. The other came in the third game of the year against Point.
