Football Preview: The West Florida Game

Carrollton, GA - The 2016 season will come to a close in Pensacola, Fla. on Saturday, with the West Georgia Wolves taking on the West Florida Argonauts for the first time on the gridiron. The Wolves are coming off of a heartbreaking loss to Florida Tech this past week, a setback that put UWG out of the playoffs for the first time since the 2014 campaign. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. (EST) on Saturday from Blue Wahoo Stadium in Pensacola.

The loss was the fourth on the year from the Wolves and the second at home, dropping UWG to 6-4 overall and 3-4 in Gulf South Conference play. West Florida fell at the hands of North Alabama, handing UNA a record-breaking fourth-straight conference title, but it was the first that will not be split with another team.

DONAHUE SETS GSC MARK
Three records have fallen this season at the hands of senior defensive end Dylan Donahue. He has now set the single-season record for sacks for both the Gulf South Conference and West Georgia, as well as setting the UWG record for career sacks. He enters his final game as a Wolf with 13.5 sacks this season and 25.5 career sacks.

COMEBACK FALLS SHORT
The West Georgia Wolves worked hard over the past three weeks to make a comeback and earn a spot in the 2016 playoffs, but that came crashing down last week with the loss to Florida Tech at home, snapping a two-year run for the Wolves under head coach Will Hall.

DEFENSIVE STARTERS
One quick look at the start chart for the West Georgia defense reveals one thing, and that is that this year's defense has a lot of experience. among the 11 starters in today's game, there are a combined 283 starts in the past four seasons.
