LAST WEEK
The West Georgia Wolves continued their dominance through the second game of the season, blasting the Miles College Golden Bears by a 29-0 score in the first road test of the season in Fairfield, Ala. this past weekend. The Wolves allowed just 47 yards on the ground and 140 total en route to the fourth shutout under head coach Will Hall. The UWG offense scored two touchdowns and the defense another to move to 2-0 on the season. Delta State fell to eighth ranked Texas A&M Commerce in their second-straight home game to start the season, losing 40-28.
SECONDARY CONTINUES TO SHINE
Senior safety A.J. Leggett had his second interception of the season and Zed Brown returned a pick 65 yards for a touchdown to lead the UWG secondary. The Wolves have five interceptions on the season heading into what could be their greatest test of the year in Delta State senior quarterback Tyler Sullivan.
FRANKS SETS THE PACE
Lamarcus Franks energized the West Georgia Wolves on the opening drive of the second half, en route to a solid day at the office. The senior rushed nine times for 86 yards and a score and also caught two passes for 31 yards. He currently leads UWG in rushing with 148 yards in two games, averaging 7.0 yards per carry.
DEFENSIVE LINE CUTS LOOSE
After being shut out of the sack game against a Catawba squad that lived by short passes in the opener, the Wolves broke out against Miles on Saturday with four sacks. Dylan Donahue had his first of the year along with Jason Carr, Ethan Hopla and A.J. Leggett. Hopla and Carr each had a forced fumble on their respective sacks.
- The current streak now stands alone as the longest home winning streak in school history, as the Wolves have now won 17-straight at University Stadium, dating back to October 31, 2013. The streak spans two coaches and four separate seasons after a 23-3 triumph two weeks ago over then #22 Catawba.
- Three different backs had at least 50 yards on the ground against Miles last weekend, including 86 from senior back Lamarcus Franks. Travis Custis carried the rock eight times for 60 yards in his first action of the year, and Devontae Jackson had 52 yards on eight carries. Each back averaged more than six yards per carry in the contest.
- West Georgia lost a spot in the national American Football Coaches Association Top-25 this week, falling to third nationally behind defending national champion Northwest Missouri State and Grand Valley State. The Wolves are tops among five South Region teams in the rankings, including Tuskegee (13), Florida Tech (19), North Alabama (20), and Valdosta State (22). UNA and VSU play each other this Saturday in Florence, Ala. UNC-Pembroke, Virginia State and Wingate also received votes from the South Region.
