Football Preview: The Miles Game

Carrollton, GA - A dominant defensive performance was the name of the game for the nation's #2 team in the 2016 season opener, as the West Georgia Wolves allowed just 235 yards of offense to 22nd-ranked Catawba last week in a 23-3 victory over the Indians.

The Wolves now turn their attention to a rivalry that has continued to build over the past five seasons, as West Georgia takes on the Miles Golden Bears on the road. The game will be broadcast live on KISS 102.7 or at the Gradick Sports Portal online.

SECONDARY STEPS FORWARD
The Wolves' secondary showed a ball-hawking nature from the outset in the opener, picking off Catawba quarterback Mike Sheehan three times in the contest, including a pick from senior cornerback Marcus Sayles on the third play of the game.

HALL STEPS INTO NEW CLUB
With one win in his sixth season as a head coach, Will Hall won his 50th game. The first victory for Hall was a 42-35 triumph over Tarleton State on September 10, 2011, when he was the head coach at West Alabama. His first win at UWG came on September 6, 2014 over Mars Hill, and he has 25 victories since coming to Carrollton.

BLOCKED KICKS BECOME THE NORM
Sayles picked up his 11th career blocked kick last week against Catawba, marking the third time in his four openers where he has blocked a kick. That includes two blocked punts and a blocked field goal against opponents from the South Atlantic Conference. He blocked a punt in his redshirt freshman year against Mars Hill in 2013, then blocked a field goal last year at Catawba before Saturday's blocked punt against Catawba.
