Carrollton, GA – Five standouts from the 2018 West Georgia Wolves football team have earned All-America recognition. The group was named Tuesday to the 2018 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America Team.
A pair of UWG standouts earned third team berths on the Don Hansen All-America Team. Senior offensive tackle Quentin Stanford, and freshman return specialist LaPerion Perry were chosen for the honor. Both had previously been chosen as first team members of the 2018 All-Gulf South Conference Football Team.
Three additional Wolves were picked as honorable mention members of the Don Hansen All-America Team. This group includes a pair of seniors: running back Devontae Jackson of Marietta, and safety Montrell Pardue of Clarksville, Tenn. The final UWG All-America choice was Omar Cervantes, the freshman place kicker from Fort Valley. As with Stanford and Perry, Jackson, Pardue, and Cervantes were also All-GSC First Team selections.
For Jackson, this honor is his third All-America selection of this postseason. He was selected as an All-America Second Team pick by both the American Football Coaches Association, and by d2football.com. Jackson is only the second player in UWG history to receive All-America honors following three (2015, 17, and 18) separate seasons. Center Harley Vaughan (2015-17) was the other.
The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen's Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.
