th-ranked Blazers were too much offensively as the Wolves fell
The Wolves offense shot well, finishing the game at 43.8 percent from the field, including an 11-of-20 performance from the three-point line. But the Blazers, who have now won 11 straight games, shot 55.7 percent from the field and poured in 13 three-pointers.
Seth Brown-Carter and
Michael Zabetakis led the Wolves offensively with 18 points each, leading a group of five Wolves finishing with double figures. Oronte Anderson added 14 while UWG got 10 from
Kadeim Jones and
Greg James.
Early in the contest, the two teams were trading baskets as UWG and VSU were tied 11-11 at the first media timeout. The Blazers came out of that timeout on a 13-0 run to stretch their lead to double-digits with 11:30 left in the opening half.
West Georgia got the lead back down to as few as six in the half, but shortly after that point, VSU went on an 8-0 run over a 3:18 span to force a UWG timeout with the Blazers leading 34-19 at the 6:19 mark of the period.
The VSU lead eventually got up to 18 in the first half, but West Georgia hit three of their final four shots to close out the half, cutting the deficit to 12 at 50-38 at the break.
By the 17:40 mark of the second half, VSU had stretched the lead back to 19 as they began the period on a 12-5 run, forcing a UWG timeout leading 62-43.
VSU's lead got up to 26 at one point, but the Wolves were able to get the deficit back under 20 at one point late in the game.
The Wolves remain on the road on Thursday, heading north to take on Lee in GSC play. Tip-time from Cleveland, Tennessee is set for 7:30 p.m.
